Eligible students are invited to compete for three $1,000 scholarships to the State University of New York at Fredonia as a result of a scholarship fund created by Welch's and the National Grape Cooperative for its employees and grower-members.

Established through the Fredonia College Foundation, the Welch's-National scholarships have been awarded annually since 1996. Scholarship applications are now available for students who will be attending SUNY Fredonia in the academic year starting Fall 2006. Any child or grandchild of a Welch’s or National Grape employee or member in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Canada is eligible for the Welch’s scholarship.

Applications are due May 10. Interested families should contact the National Grape Cooperative office at 2 S. Portage St. in Westfield, 716-326-5200.

"Welch's is proud to offer these scholarships to the families of its employees and growers," said James Callahan, director of corporate communications at Welch's. "Supporting education in the communities where our employees and growers live and work has been a Welch's tradition. Providing a quality education has long been a SUNY Fredonia tradition. We're excited about providing these scholarships and helping to build upon both traditions," he said.
