The Women’s Studies Program will sponsor the Women Take Aim Film Series this fall, with the first movie slated for Tuesday, Oct. 27. All films will be shown at 5 p.m. on selected Tuesdays in Jewett Hall Room 101. The film screenings are free and open to the public.

Films will include:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 27, “Frida,” directed by Juilie Taymor. A biography of artist Frida Kahlo, who channeled the pain of a crippling injury and her tempestuous marriage into her work
  • Tuesday, Nov. 3, “To See If I’m Smiling,” directed by Tamar Yarom. The documentary shows the experiences of six women who served in the military in Israel, the only country where both men and women can be drafter for military service at the age of 18.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 10, “Christopher Strong,” directed by Dorothy Arzner. A 1933 film about a famous female flier and a member of Parliament drifting into a potentially disastrous affair. Director Dorothy Arzner was the first woman to join the Director’s guild. The film, featuring Katherine Hepburn, illustrates how the motion picture codes of the 1930s hindered the attempts of filmmakers to show positive portrayals of women.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 17, “Bedrooms and Hallways,” directed by Rose Troche. The film, a romantic comedy about a man with complex relationship issues, shows the ambiguous nature of sexuality.

This year’s film series is being hosted by Megan Erbacher, a recent TV/Digital Video Production graduate with a minor in Film Studies.
