Masters in Education – Mathematics 7-12

The department offers an exceptional opportunity for mathematics educators to pursue a Masters Degree in mathematics education. The program couples a deep understanding of content with relevant and applicable pedagogy. Successful completion of the degree meets partial fulfillment of professional NYS teaching licensure. Candidates can pursue the degree full time or part time.

Program Outline

  • A course in research methods
  • A minimum of three courses covering three of the following categories:

- historical, philosophical or comparative foundations of education 

- design and evaluation of mathematics curricula 

- instructional methods 

- use of educational technology in the teaching and learning of mathematics 

- psychological foundations of education

  • A minimum of four courses covering four of the following categories:

- algebra or analysis

- geometry or topology

- number theory, probability or statistics

- history or philosophy of mathematics

- applications of mathematics

- any approved course in mathematics

Total Credit Hours for Program Completion: 30

Program Requirements

NYS Initial Certification in Mathematics/Adolescence Education, with a bachelor's degree in mathematics or equivalent coursework.

Or

NYS Initial Certification in Middle Childhood Mathematics Education, with a bachelor's degree in mathematics or equivalent coursework.
