An ABSENTEE BALLOT could be part of your plan!

  • There are many states - including New York - that let you send in an absentee ballot. This makes it easy for citizens, including students, to vote.
  • If you are registered to vote at home but will be away on Election Day (i.e., attending school) you may be able to vote by absentee ballot due to absence from home on Election Day.
  • If you are registered to vote, but not in New York State, check out your state's rules for absentee ballots and early voting.
  • The voter registration form can be used as a change of address form. Notices of change of address from registered voters received at least 20 days before a special, primary or general election by a county board of elections must be processed and entered in the records in time for that election.
  • Note:  New York State now has Universal Transfer of Voter Registration Records (Portable Registration). This means that, if you move anywhere within New York State, you will now be able to vote in your new election district without updating your address. Just show up and vote by Affidavit Ballot, which will transfer your registration from your old jurisdiction to the new jurisdiction. The ballot will be opened and added to the vote totals, once your registration has been matched and transferred.

The State Board of Elections has released an online tool to
allow any voter to request an absentee ballot online.

EARLY VOTING could be part of your plan

  • Check out this website to find your polling place and to learn more about early voting: https://www.ny.gov/early-voting-new-york
  • You don't need an excuse to vote early.
  • If you cast a ballot during the Early Voting Period, you can’t vote on Election Day.
  • Early Voting Poll Sites will NOT be open the day before the Election.
