SUNY Fredonia’s College of Education welcomed Dr. Guangyu Tan to its faculty ranks this past fall. Dr. Tan holds a Ph.D. in Cultural Foundations of Education from Kent State University.
She has taught as a Diversity Teaching Fellow in the Department of Adolescence Education at Canisius College, and her primary research interest is equity in education, including the study of migrant children’s education and the education of young girls in China.
As a first generation Chinese American, Dr. Tan is also interested in ethnic identity formation among immigrant children; international/intercultural education; and comparative education.
Her doctoral dissertation explored the role an ethnic Chinese community plays in explaining academic achievement and identity formation among first and second generation Chinese American youths.
