Dust off those Groucho glasses and come back to campus in 2010 for Fredonia Marxonia on April 24 at 1 p.m. |
In April the campus welcomed back “Fredonia Marxonia: the Marx Brothers Film Festival and Symposium,” which made a triumphant return after a 20-year hiatus.
The festival celebrates the village and university link to the 1929 Marx Brothers’ movie, “Duck Soup,” which takes place in the fictional country of “Freedonia.”
Area folk lore tells of an alleged Marx Brothers appearance at the Fredonia Opera House before the movie’s release, and even a public spat between the village of Fredonia’s mayor at the time and the world-famous funnymen (thought by some to have been a publicity stunt).
This year’s attendees traveled from Buffalo, Rochester, Pennsylvania, and Maryland to be a part of the mirth and merriment. Interested in dusting off your Groucho glasses?
