Aug. 24, 2009 -- On Saturday, Oct. 10, three alumni will be recognized for outstanding achievement in their fields. John Baust, Ph.D., ’65 (Biology); Kimberlee Neifer Caldwell, Ph.D., ’87 (Recombinant Gene Technology); and Clifton C. Turner, ’84 (Business Administration), will be honored at the Alumni Awards Luncheon at the Cranston Marché dining center in the University Commons (formerly Cranston Hall).
Rounding out the program will be a special recognition of all Golden Grads (Class of ’59 and earlier), and the Class of ’64 will re-dedicate its class gift, “Protected Dialogue,” the sculpture which graces the front of the commons.
Also on Saturday, the College of Education invites its alumni back to catch up with old friends, new faculty and current students. Discover what new programs and changes have taken place since you graduated. Join the C.O.E. in the Pucci Room on the Williams Center’s second floor from 11 a.m. to noon for light refreshments.
Looking for some music? The Fredonia Reunion Jazz Ensemble will perform Friday at 8 p.m. in the Rosch Recital Hall. On Saturday at 3 p.m., “Legacies in Words and Music: A Celebration of the Careers of Bob Schweik and Ted Frazeur,” will bring together members of the community-based Penelope Writers Collective and current Fredonia faculty and students to share with alumni (especially English and Music) ongoing and mutually creative projects.
This 1 ½ hour event will center on a presentation of “The ABC Adventure,” a poem by Joanne Schweik, Dr. Schweik’s widow and a former member of the Reed Library staff. It has been set to music by Professor Emeritus Frazeur and will be read by Susan Lord of the Department of English. Professor Frazeur will conduct members of the Western New York Chamber Orchestra (WNYCO) for this performance, and a reception will follow. On Saturday at 8 p.m., don’t miss the Wind Ensemble Concert in King Concert Hall, conducted by Paula Holcomb, director of bands. All three performances are free and promise to be outstanding.
On Sunday at 4 p.m., enjoy the Verdehr Trio, in Rosch Recital Hall. This jazz trio has commissioned over 200 new works from some of the world’s most prominent and exciting composers. The Classes of ’49, ’64, ’69, ’84, ’89 and ’99 will celebrate their anniversaries with special events, while the Classes of ’74, ’79, ’94 and ’04 will be recognized at the Alumni Awards Luncheon. Specific area establishments will be designated for further gatherings later Saturday evening. Look for locations at the Homecoming Registration Table.
