FREDONIA, N.Y. — Feb. 9, 2009 — SUNY Fredonia’s Center for Multicultural Affairs (CMA) is now accepting applications for its annual Rosa Parks scholarships. All entries are due March 6 at 4 p.m. in room E125 of Thompson Hall.

All full-time students, except previous winners, are eligible to apply.

Three participants will be awarded $350 at an awards ceremony on April 7, at which the applicants will share the creative components of their entries, including written, multimedia or performance pieces. Written entries should not exceed 10 pages, typed and double spaced. All 2D or 3D components must be submitted in their original form.

Performance pieces, such as dance or music, should be recorded on video cassette or recordable DVD discs. Each entry must also be accompanied by an entry form and a one-page typed summary, describing the piece. Entry forms are available in the Center for Multicultural Affairs.

This is the 20th anniversary this competition has been offered at SUNY Fredonia.

The CMA plans and implements educational, cultural, social and recreational presentations on diversity to facilitate cross-cultural dialogue across campus. The CMA often develops and/or facilitates training programs for faculty, staff and students to increase sensitivity to multicultural issues and students of color.

The Center for Multicultural Affairs attempts to encourage the campus community to investigate and acknowledge the various cultures that exist in this environment, recognize these differences and then celebrate and appreciate those very things that separate and yet bring such a community together.
