Science Center architect Mitchell/Giurgola picked up its second honor, a Design Award from the Society of American Registered Architects/New York Council, for its design of one of the newest academic buildings at Fredonia.

“Winning Design Awards is a significant accomplishment given the number and quality of projects submitted. Winning two awards for the same project is even more significant and it reflects not only the excellence of the project but also the contribution of the client,” said Steven Goldberg, FAIA, partner of Mitchell/Giurgola Architects.

“Great projects come from great clients,” Mr. Goldberg added.

Mitchell/Giurgola partners Susan Stando and John Doherty accepted the award at the ceremony and banquet held recently in New York City. A total of 35 Design Awards were issued by the New York Council, one of 11 SARA councils in eight states.

The 92,000 square-foot project, opened in 2014, houses the Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental Science and Science Education programs. Mitchell/Giurgola received an Excelsior Honor Award from AIA New York State, Inc., an organization of The American Institute of Architects, in May.
