Antonio Devereaux, the RA of the Month for February, with Megan Hanrahan, residence director of Igoe Hall.
The Residence Life Student Recognition Committee recognized Antonio Devereaux, a Resident Assistant in Igoe Hall, as the Resident Assistant of the Month award for February.
He was nominated by his Residence Director, Megan Hanrahan, and Department of Theatre and Dance Professor Paul Mockovak.
About his performance as an RA, Ms. Hanrahan said, "Being in an upperclassmen, more quiet building, RAs need to be a little more determined and give more effort to get to know residents. Antonio has reached out to individual residents to get to know them on a personal level, especially residents who we don't interact with as often.
“I would say he is one of the RAs who knows the most residents in the building, getting to know where they're from, their majors/minors, clubs involved in on campus, etc. He tailors his programs to his residents’ specific interests in order to create more engaging activities."
Mr. Devereaux is a senior from Liverpool, N.Y., with a major in Theatre Arts and a minor in Communication.
About his experience in the role, Devereaux said, "I quickly learned as an RA we have the ability to create any kind of environment within our halls, and I genuinely love creating a fun environment and good connections with the residents.
“One of my favorite parts of being an RA is when I do my rounds and I get to see the residents, and have short little conversations with them,” Devereaux said. “I know when I’m doing rounds and I hear ‘Hi, Antonio!’ coming from someone’s room, it makes me extremely happy of the environment we have here, and I just hope we have created the same environment for our residents here at Igoe! I also just really enjoy doing funny hall boards!"
