Fredonia's Christian Cabrera was named the March 17 week SUNYAC Baseball Athlete of the Week, while Cortland's Luis Misla was the Pitcher of the Week.
Cabrera led the Fredonia baseball team to a 4-1 start to the season by batting .542 (13-for-24) with 11 RBI, seven runs scored, and five extra-base hits this past week. He did not strike out and walked twice. After a 1-for-4 performance in a 9-1 win at Keuka, Cabrera went 3-for-5 in each of the next four games, which included a 10-7 win over Ohio Wesleyan, a 7-6 win over Gwynedd Mercy, a 7-4 win over Rutgers-Newark, and a 21-14 loss to Clarkson. His homerun during the week was a go-ahead, three-run blast that broke a 10-10 at the time, before Clarkson battled back. He also had two triples and two doubles for a .917 slugging percentage.
Misla earned the win at nationally seventh-ranked Trinity University (Texas) on Friday after tossing six shutout innings in an 8-5 victory. He gave up five hits, struck out eight and did not walk anyone. This is Misla's second Pitcher of the Week honor this season.
