Members of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity are ready to hold its annual “Tree Trot” to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

The 24th annual effort by the New York Iota chapter at SUNY Fredonia aims to raise awareness and charitable funds. The group has taken the “tis the season” spirit to heart and feet. Its objective is to carry a Christmas tree from SUNY Fredonia to Lafayette Square in downtown Buffalo, NY, on Saturday, Dec. 14.

The 4 ½-foot tree will be donated by Tuscany Market in Fredonia, and will be carried in a relay by four members at a time. Following the run, the tree will be donated to a family in the Buffalo area.

The route is 42 miles and will involve all members of the fraternity, and will go from campus west to Dunkirk, NY, and north along Route 5 all the way to Buffalo. The group hopes to arrive in Buffalo at around 3:30 p.m. on what will be a 12-hour run.

In the past, the group has raised funds in this effort for YouthAIDS.

Donations have been secured from private individuals and businesses in Fredonia, Dunkirk and Western New York. They are still being accepted by contacting Sigma Phi Epsilon’s Vice President for Finance Evan Czosnyka via email or by phone at (716) 604-2255.
