In recognition of the upcoming retirement of SUNY Distinguished Professor James Piorkowski of the SUNY Fredonia School of Music, two special concerts will be presented by students from the Fredonia guitar studio.
Admission is free for both concerts and the public is invited to attend.
On Thursday, March 21 at 8 p.m. in Juliet J. Rosch Recital Hall, the compositions of Mr. Piorkowski will be the program theme, featuring selections from his “Sentient Preludes,” his homage to J.S. Bach, “Prelude and Dialogue,” and his cello and guitar musical travelogue, “El Camino a Oviedo.”
On Tuesday, April 16 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall, the spring concert of the Fredonia Guitar Quartet and Guitar Ensemble will perform the world premiere of “The Rabbit Hole,” which was recently composed by Piorkowski specifically for the farewell concert. Also included on the program is Piorkowski's “Kinesiology” for four guitars, and the world premiere of “Seasons” by SUNY Fredonia alumnus Tom Rasely, '73. Mr. Rasely will be present for the performance.
