The Fredonia State softball team split a doubleheader at Buffalo State on Friday. The Devils claimed Game 1 by a 5-4 count, and lost Game 2, falling 8-6.

Game 1
Down 3-2 in the seventh, Fredonia State rallied for three runs in the top of the inning to take the lead. A trio of Buffalo State errors in the inning -- they would have five for the game -- set the stage for the rally. Emilly Chelius drove home the first run, Alyssa Piniewski who had reached on an error, to tie the game, 3-3. Nicole Kumro then reached on an error. A single by Maria Caviris loaded the bases.

After a pitching change, Megan Guidry would be called out at home trying to advance on a would-be wild pitch for the second out. Alyssa Santiago then delivered the big blow, doubling to centerfield for two RBI and the 5-3 lead. A third Bengal error off the bat of Victori Pauwels extended the inning, before a strikeout sent the game to the bottom of the seventh.

A double, ground out, and a double made it a one-run game. Chelius induced the final two batters to pop out to end the game, earning her sixth win of the season.

Amber Piniewski had two hits for Fredonia State.

Game 2
Nicole Kumro got the scoring going with a Grand Slam in the top of the fourth to stake the Devils to a 4-0 lead. Unfortunately, Buff State scored four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings and it would be too much to overcome.

Santiago, Caviris, and Amber Piniewski each finished with a pair of hits. Santiago added a double.

Buffalo State is now 9-17, and 3-7 in the SUNYAC. The Devils are 7-19, and 4-6 in conference play.
