The Fredonia State men's soccer team shutout Potsdam, 3-0, on Saturday. Jacob Vallas, Chance LaCroix, and Kaleb Steward each scored to power the Devils.

After a scoreless first half, Vallas opened the scoring with his second goal of the year 9:47 into the second frame.

Fredonia State goaltender William Richardson made a spectacular save late with just under 15 minutes to play to preserve the one-goal lead. The Devils used that momentum as  LaCroix put the Devils up 2-0 at the 77:53 mark with his second score of the year.

The Devils put the final nail in the coffin in just under four minutes later. Steward was fouled in the box. His free kick was initially blocked, but he followed up and knocked the rebound in. It was his third goal of the season.

Richardson finished with nine saves on the afternoon, earning his second shutout of the year. For Potsdam, Lucas Schiel had 11 saves and gave up all three scores.

"Great second half for our group after a sluggish first half," said head coach PJ Gondek. "The seniors stepped up big time today. Parker and Dylan Ange, and Robert Aboagye played like it was their last game. Will Richardson stood on his head today. Best game he has ever played. I am happy for our team. We needed this today and we got it."

The Devils improve to 1-4-2 in the SUNYAC, and 2-7-3 overall. Potsdam is now 0-3-3 and 4-4-4 overall.

The Devils honored their seven seniors in a pregame ceremony. Richardson, Dylan Ange, Robert Aboagye, Jacob Gennaro, Parker Ange, Markus Johansson, and Kyle Pezzulo,

The Devils travel to Nazareth for a non-conference game on Tuesday.
