Senior Katie Pitcher returned from a four-and-a-half game absence, and helped lead the Fredonia State women's basketball team to the post-season with a 16-point effort in a 68-60 win at Oswego to close out the regular season.
A trio of Devils had 12 points -- Lauren Mickley, Mackenna Nechwedowich, and Renee Park. Mary Culeton continued to pound the boards. The 5'7'' guard grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds, and leads the Devils with 7.8 per game. She added seven points and five assists.
The win secures the No. 6 seed for the Devils, who finished 7-11 in the conference. They will travel to Geneseo on Tuesday for the first round of the SUNYAC playoffs. The squads split their two meetings during the regular season. Overall, the Devils are 12-13.
The game was tight through the first two quarters. The Devils built an 18-16 lead after the first. Oswego took a one-point lead with a three pointer to start the second quarter, but the lead would be short lived and the last advantage of the game for the Lakers after a back-and-forth first quarter.
The Devils would stretch the lead to double digits after a layup by Mickley made it 46-35 halfway through the third quarter.
The Lakers were never too far out of the game. They would pull within six points, 66-60, in the final minute.
The Lakers (2-16, 5-19 overall) were led by Diamond Pickett with 19 points -- one of four players to reach double-digit scoring for the hosts. Pickett added a game-high 16 rebounds.
