The Fredonia State men's soccer team team kicked off Family and Friends weekend with a 7-0 win over the visiting SUNY Canton Kangaroos. It was the Blue Devils first SUNYAC matchup against Canton.
Five minutes into the game Brian Taylor scored on a high shot just out of reach of Canton goalkeeper Jason Vela. Chance Lacroix assisted on the goal.
In the 20th minute Kyto Magee found the back of the net thanks to a beautiful pass from Brian Taylor. Following up in the 28th minute Taylor had another gorgeous assist to feed Freddy Butler for the goal.
Fredonia's fourth goal came on a long pass from Huddy Kwiatkowski to feed Carson Teijeria in front of the net. Kye Castelluccio headed in Fredonia's fifth goal off a perfectly placed corner kick by Liam Walsh. The final goal scored in the first half came off the foot of Vinnie DiBello assisted by Sam Evans.
Fredonia's seventh-and-final goal came in the 49th minute, scored by Brian Taylor, his second of the game and 11th of the season..
"Great bounce back today in SUNYAC play," said head coach PJ Gondek. "We absolutely needed 3 points and we got it. It was nice to get some younger guys in the game and they did very well. Time to prepare for New Paltz."
Goalkeeper Thomas McDonald had 2 saves in the contest. The Blue Devils record now sits at 6-4-2.
The team is back in action Tuesday for a JV matchup against Jamestown Community College, JCC, with a start time scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
