Keenan Roberts Jr. scored 17 points and Malik Jemison had 13 points and eight assists as the Fredonia State men's basketball team improved to 4-4 with a 75-67 win over Houghton on Dec. 7.
The Devils shot a solid 53 percent from the floor, going 33-62, while the Highlanders converted only 36 percent, shooting 28-78.
The first half was tightly contested, with seven lead changes. Fredonia State settled for a 36-31 lead at the break, matching their biggest lead of the half.
They would lead by as many as 12 points in the second half, but Houghton would hang around. They made it a four-point game with just under three minutes left in the game. A pair of free throws by the Highlander's Preston Thomas cut the Devils' lead to 71-67.
For Fredonia State, Tyrese Fuller added eight points and eight rebounds, and Alon Haimovitz had eight points.
Houghton (1-8) was led by Jajuan Preister and Aaron Johnson with 17 apiece.
The Devils travel to Erie on Dec. 10 to take on Division II Mercyhurst in an exhibition game. Tip off is slated for 2 p.m.
