Fredonia's special teams were the difference Saturday in its 2-1 men's hockey road win over Brockport.
The Blue Devils (2-1 overall, 1-1 SUNYAC) got power-play goals from Ryan Dunn (Rockland, Mass.) and Jimmy Morgan (Highlands Ranch, Col.) and were six of seven on the penalty kill while dealing the Golden Eagles (3-1 overall, 1-1 SUNYAC) their first loss of the season.
Ryan Dunner (Glassboro, N.J.) added an insurance goal late in the third period moments after another successful Fredonia penalty kill.
Eric Bogart (London, Ont.) made 24 saves to improve to 2-0 this season. The only goal he allowed was came on a Brockport five-minute power play which began late in the first period and carried over into the second.
Brockport's Jordan Renaud scored 21 seconds into the second period.
Dunn opening the scoring with a power-play at the 15:00 mark of the first period when he jammed home a rebound from the slot. It was his first goal of the season. Jacob Haynes (Whitby, Ont.) was credited with an assist.
The goal by Renaud at the start of the second period forged a 1-1 tie, but it was short-lived. The Blue Devils regained the lead, 2-1, on Morgan's first goal of the season, the result of good puck movement. Working on the point on a power play, Charlie Manley (Orchard Park) passed to Dunner in the left corner, and Dunner passed across the front of the net, where Morgan was stationed. It was Morgan's first goal of the season and the third game-winner of his collegiate career.
Dunner's insurance goal on a rising shot at 17:02 of the third period was also his first goal of the season. Ethan Kirbis (Clarence) picked up the primary assist, Morgan the secondary assist.
Next up for Fredonia is Friday's Stroke Awareness Game vs. Bryn Athyn at Steele Hall at 7 p.m.
