The School of Music and the Office of Admissions will host information sessions for prospective undergraduate and graduate piano students and their families on Sunday, Nov. 15.
During both virtual sessions, potential undergraduate and graduate students can meet School of Music faculty, ask questions about the audition process and degree programs and listen to comments from current piano students and alumni. The first session begins at 1 p.m. and will conclude with a virtual tour of Mason Hall, home of the School of Music. The second session will start at 3 p.m.
In the second session, Lecturer Anne Kissel, who serves as coordinator of the Collaborative Piano program, will provide information about Fredonia’s Master of Music in Collaborative Piano degree program, as well as career options and related topics.
"Many career paths are available to collaborative pianists," Dr. Kissel explained. "They may find work as performers, coaches and rehearsal pianists in opera and theater, as accompanists in academic and professional settings, in chamber music, new music, work with large instrumental ensembles – the list goes on and on,” she said.
Collaborative pianists often choose to combine these performance activities with teaching to create a rich and varied professional life, Kissel added.
“We'll talk about career paths in collaborative piano and how Fredonia's Master of Music in Collaborative Piano program can give you the skills you need to succeed,” Kissel explained.
Fredonia alumnus Matt Marco, whose recent credits include Opera Tampa and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and Sandra Leary, founder of Northern Chautauqua Suzuki Piano and an in-demand freelance accompanist, will talk about their experiences at Fredonia and beyond.
Assistant Professor of Piano Eliran Avni urges students to take advantage of this opportunity to chat with piano faculty and Admissions staff. “We are going to be sharing some insights about how to prepare a successful audition video – you don't want to miss this,” Dr. Avni said.
Registration for both sessions must be completed by Friday, Nov. 13, to receive the Zoom link. Go online for more information.
