Residents of Ohio and Pennsylvania who want to attend Fredonia at a better tuition rate than their own public universities now have that opportunity!

With the Good Neighbor Award, announced recently by SUNY Fredonia Interim President Dennis L. Hefner, SUNY’s out-of-state tuition rate is automatically discounted $6,000. Starting with the Fall 2020 academic year, tuition for Ohio and Pennsylvania residents at Fredonia will be $10,980 a year. That rate puts Fredonia’s tuition below the three biggest public universities in Ohio, and the two biggest public universities in Pennsylvania (based on 2018-19 tuition rates).

“This student recruitment initiative will benefit the fall 2020 incoming class, as well as current students from Ohio and Pennsylvania,” Dr. Hefner said. “Students will soon realize Fredonia is not only more affordable than the public universities in those states, but is also a beautiful campus with quality programs and just a short drive up I-90.”

To qualify, students must be enrolled at Fredonia as a full-time undergraduate student in the 2020-21 school year, a resident of Pennsylvania or Ohio, and must maintain good standing with the university. First-year students are eligible to get the award for four years, and transfer students can receive the award for up to three years.

The Good Neighbor Award makes Fredonia an attractive option for students as close as Erie, Pennsylvania (1 hour away) and Pittsburgh and Cleveland (2 ½ hours away). “While Fredonia is just down the road for thousands of students in Pennsylvania, out of state tuition costs were an issue,” said Cory Bezek, executive director of Enrollment Services at Fredonia. “This Good Neighbor Award gives students in Ohio and Pennsylvania an affordable option to a high quality higher education experience.”

First-year students who are receiving the Good Neighbor Award are also considered for additional Academic index awards which can range from $1,500-3,000 depending on high school GPA and test scores.
