Amber Nellett, with the research poster she presented at the Eastern Division National Association for Music Education Conference.
Amber Nellett, a candidate for a Master of Music degree in Music Education, presented a research poster, "Identity, Belonging, And Agency in a Vernacular Music Club," that highlighted her recent master's research study exploring how students make meaning in an after-school music club through social emotional learning at the Eastern Division National Association for Music Education Conference.
“Connect, Create, Communicate” was the theme of the conference, held April 13 to 15, in Rochester. Participants at the conference included higher education faculty, practicing music teachers and preservice music teachers.
Ms. Nellett's poster featured QR codes through which conference participants could listen to compositions created by the children from the after-school music club and quotes from those children regarding the impact of music making on their social-emotional growth.
Associate Professor of Music Education Jill Reese serves as Nellett’s research advisor.
Nellett, of Bay City, Mich., received a B.M. in Music Education from Eastern Michigan University in 2019. She has certification to teach music in Michigan and New York state.
