Hallberg, Koshi lead Devils to third place finish

Freshman Stephen Hallberg finished in third place -- just 10 seconds off the pace -- in his first SUNYAC Championship Meet on Saturday.

Fellow Blue Devil Sembel Koshi finished fifth, as the team was third overall in the conference standings.

Hallberg timed out in 26:56, while Jonathan Bierman of Oneonta took first in 26:46. Cortland won the team title with 60 points, Oneonta was second with 71 points, and the Devils had 81 team points.

Koshi was five seconds behind Hallberg in 27:01.

Edward Jourdan finished in 20th place (27:59); Kevin Moser was 26th (28:19); and Quillan Shimp was 27th (28:19).

Displacement runners were Lucas Peterson-Volz in 33rd place (28:42) and Aiden VanAmburg was 56th (30:23).

Head coach Tom Wilson appreciated his team's effort. "Both teams wanted it more today," he said. "They worked very hard all season and got rewarded for it."

Next up will be the Niagara Region Meet on the campus of Fredonia State on Saturday, Nov. 16.
