Freshman cross country runner Stephen Hallberg was the top-finishing, first-year competitor at the SUNYAC Championship Meet on Nov. 2 in Oswego.
For that and his strong efforts all season long, he was voted SUNYAC Male Rookie of the Year by a vote of conference coaches.
Hallberg, a freshman from Jamestown (NY) High School, finished third overall at the SUNYAC meet. He was first or second -- along with senior Sembel Koshi -- for the meets the team ran this fall. He had previously earned First team All-Conference for the Blue Devils.
Hallberg was the first Rookie of the Year award winner in Head Coach Tom Wilson's tenure. He is also the highest freshman conference finisher under Wilson's guidance.
