Omar Posas, M.D., will provide insight into how COVID-19 has impacted Honduras, where SUNY Fredonia students and alumni have served on medical brigades, in a Zoom talk he’ll give on Wednesday, March 30, to students enrolled in HONR 304: Pandemic Health.

Department of Biology Chair and Professor Ted Lee met Dr. Posas, a general practitioner, in 2017, on his first trip to Honduras to serve on a medical brigade. Dr. Lee also worked with Posas on subsequent trips to Honduras, including this past January when he was joined by four Fredonia alumni.

Posas is on the front lines of Honduras’ battle against COVID-19, serving patients in Tegucigalpa, the nation’s capital, as well as in clinics in rural areas. He’s expected to share COVID-19 data, such as case and vaccination counts, as well as mitigation measures. His wife, Dr. Sindy Lazo, also a physician, is expected to join the Zoom talk.

In addition to HONR 304: Pandemic Health, Lee also teaches INED 312: Health Care in Latin America and INED 313: Honduras Health Care, in which students serve on medical brigades during the J-Term.
