Baxter Kimball with the goal!!!!
After dropping a game to SUNY Buffalo State University on home ice on Friday, the Fredonia State men's hockey team made a statement early on, scoring twice in the first 10 minutes of the game en route to a 4-1 victory at Buffalo State on Saturday. Baxter Kimball led the Devils with a pair of goals. Parker James had two assists.
Just 2:20 into the game, Spencer Quinn scored his first goal of the season on helpers from Xavier Fortin and James.
Kimball scored at the 9:27 mark on assists from Kurri Woodford and Dillon Schmidt to push the lead to 2-0.
Midway through the second period, freshman Antoine St. Onge scored his second goal of the year to up the lead to 3-0. Ethan Pitzman and James assisted. The score remained 3-0 after the second period of play.
Statistically, the game was relatively even after two frames. Fredonia State had 24 shots on goal compared to 25 for the Bengals.
The Bengals finally got on the board seven minutes into the third. Aidan Lavalley scored on a power play following a tripping penalty to cut the Fredonia State lead to 3-1.
The Devils would tack on the final goal at 13:31 when Kimball connected for his second score of the night.
Charles-Anthony Barbeau earned the win in net with 40 saves. His counterpart, Marcus Cumberworth, made 29 stops for the Bengals.
The Devils were 0-4 on power plays, and Buff State went 1-5. The Bengals out shot the Devils, 41-33. The Bengals fall to 2-4-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the conference.
The Devils (1-5-0 / 1-3-0 SUNYAC) hope to keep the momentum going when they travel to SUNYAC foe Morrisville State on Wednesday. Puck drop is slated for 6:30 p.m.
