Aleecea Denton, an undergraduate majoring in Music Education, presented her project, "Creating Windows and Mirrors in the Early Childhood Music Classroom," at the 2021 SUNY Undergraduate Research Conference hosted by SUNY Old Westbury on Friday, April 16.

In her project, Ms. Denton created instructional materials that could be used by teachers in preschool/early elementary settings to support the development of children's social emotional learning and to open a pathway for discussions with children related to issues of diversity and social justice. Included in the materials she created are original compositions and lesson plans appropriate for use with young children.

The conference provides a statewide audience for sharing research and creative activities with other SUNY students and professors. Denton completed her project to fulfill the requirements for an independent study under the advisement of School of Music Associate Professor Jill Reese.

Denton, a graduate of Carthage (N.Y.) High School and resident of Fayetteville, N.C., will graduate in December.
