University Police Chief Gordon T. Carpenter Jr.
An informal talk by Gordon T. Carpenter Jr., the new Chief of University Police, will open the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Brown Bag Lunch series on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at noon, in Williams Center Room S204.
In his remarks, Chief Carpenter will outline his work experiences and also share some of his perspectives on policing that will include a general overview of changes in policing and how these changes might affect SUNY Fredonia.
Carpenter, who began his position in University Police in mid-September, most recently served as Special Police Chief in the Division of Public Safety at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, NY. He had previously served 16 years in the Howard County Police Department, holding a number of positions that include Southern District Watch Commander, in Ellicott City, MD.
He is also an adjunct instructor in the Criminal Justice undergraduate program at Hilbert College in Hamburg, NY.
Carpenter has a B.A. in Political Science/Public Administration from the University of Maryland and a M.A. in Strategic Leadership from St. Bonaventure University.
Opening remarks will be given by Department of Sociocultural and Justice Sciences Associate Professor Jessica Finkeldey.
The theme of the 2023-2024 Brown Bag Lunch series is “Gradually then Suddenly: Understanding Change.”
Brown Bag talks, held on the first Wednesday of each month, are free and open to the public. A light lunch is furnished by the Faculty Student Association. Additional financial support is provided by the Carnahan Jackson Fund for the Humanities of the Fredonia College Foundation.
