During Fall Break, four School of Business students, accompanied by Dr. Mark Nickerson, had the opportunity to travel to New York City for a once-in-a-lifetime trip.
On Thursday, the students spent the morning traveling by ferry to Liberty Island to visit the Statue of Liberty and later in the day were treated to a private tour of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York including a tour of the gold vault - which is located so far underground it is well below even the subway system in NYC. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York gold vault houses more than $400 billion of the world's gold, more than even Fort Knox. Students discussed monetary policy, cash circulation, and the reserve bank’s structuring across regions with a member of the Federal Reserve staff.
On Friday, the students and Dr. Nickerson spent the morning at the 9/11 museum and visiting the reflecting pools honoring those killed in the 9/11 terror attacks and 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Later in the day, they had a guided tour of Wall Street and the Financial District beginning outside of the New York Stock Exchange, learning about Wall Street’s history and culture.
Students participating in the trip included Joseph Dimaio, a Business Administration/Finance major from Clarence; Kaitlin Casilio, a Business Administration/Marketing major, also from Clarence; Sarah State, a Public Accountancy and Business Administration major from Marion, NY; and Jenna Leid, a Public Accountancy major from Fredonia.
