Oboe Day, an annual tradition at the SUNY Fredonia School of Music geared to middle and high school students with a recital, master class, repair class and other activities, will be held in Mason Hall on Sunday, Oct. 24.

Event host Professor of Oboe Sarah Hamilton, of the touring Fredonia Woodwind Quintet and Western New York Chamber Orchestra, will be joined by guest artist Dr. Aaron Hill, an assistant professor of oboe and classical saxophone at the University of Nevada, Reno, and alumna oboist Stephanie Patterson, ’12, a brand specialist at Fox Products and an active performer and educator.

In addition to in-person activities, two sessions will also be offered online. Events include: recital, 1 p.m.; master class with Hill and Dr. Hamilton, 2 p.m.; oboe adjustment class with Ms. Patterson, 3 p.m.; chamber music coached by Fredonia students, 4 p.m.; and a final informal concert, 4:45 p.m. Those attending the oboe adjustment class should bring their instrument and an oboe (jeweler’s) screwdriver.

Tentative plans have been made to also livestream the 1 p.m. recital and 2 p.m. master class. More information and registration are available online.

Those who would like to play in the Hill/Hamilton masterclass are asked to send a three-minute video of their playing to Dr. Sarah Hamilton via email by Oct. 17.

The Oboe Day registration fee is $15, though teachers may attend at no charge with advance registration.
