The 2024 election is expected to be heavily influenced by mis/disinformation, with concerns about the spread of false narratives impacting voter perception and decision-making.
The American Democracy Project is hosting a panel on mis/disinformation in the 2024 presidential election on Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 3 to 3:50 p.m. in Williams Center Room S204. Light refreshments will be provided.
Organizers note that it is an opportunity to gain insights from experts and contribute to a discussion on combating misinformation in a democracy, and encourages those planning to attend to ask questions and share their thoughts. Panelists will include associate professors Mike Igoe and Elmer Ploetz, and Senior Assistant Librarian Christina Hilburger. The panel will delve into the critical issues surrounding mis/disinformation, its impact on voter participation, and the integrity of democratic processes.
The event is being co-sponsored by the American Democracy Project (ADP) and Department of Communication, with support from the Faculty Student Association. The ADP aims to educate students to engage in civic issues through participatory democracy and develop an appreciation for voter participation. For more information, please contact the ADP via email.
