The SUNYAC selected Fredonia's Maddie Payne as its Women's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week and Canton's Skylar Williams the Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Payne scored a goal and an assist as the Fredonia State women's soccer team won the Blue Devil Classic Soccer Tournament on Saturday. In a 3-1 win over Utica, Payne assisted on the first goal. Against Houghton, with the game tied 1-1, Payne scored in the 76th minute to give the Devils a 2-1 victory.
Williams had a remarkable week in goal combining to stop 38 shots leading the Roos to a pair of ties. On Wednesday she recorded a single-game program record in the NCAA D-III era stopping 24 of the 25 shots she faced (.960 save %) in a 1-1 tie at Elmira. On Saturday she turned aside 14 of the 16 shots she faced (.875 save %) in a 2-2 tie at SUNY ESF. She has continued to extend her program record for career saves as she has now made 442 saves in 44 career contests (10.05/game).
