It’s “game on” again at the Blue Devil eSports Lounge in Schulz Hall!

Gamers were back in action on Monday, Sept. 21, following a hiatus triggered last March by the coronavirus pandemic.

“On the first day, we had 47 people throughout the day. It went well, and everybody seemed very happy that it was back open,” reported eSports Club advisor Mark Mackey.

Social distancing guidelines are in place, so just six of the lounge’s 12 computers are open. One of the three game consoles can be used at once, and viewing chair are also available. Gamers are to clean their areas when they’re finished, Mackey said, and proctors are on duty to make sure that happens.

“We can comfortably put 12 people in that room and be socially distanced,” Mr. Mackey noted.

The eSports Lounge is open from noon to midnight, seven days a week. Mackey indicated student groups may place reservations, though most gamers typically just drop in at their convenience, and that’s worked well so far.

Mackey hopes to see students competing with gamers from other schools sometime during the semester.
