The premiere of the concert version of an opera based on Sherlock Holmes takes place April 6 at SUNY Fredonia.

The Western New York Chamber Orchestra presents “221B – A Sherlock Holmes Opera” at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 6 in the Harry A. King Concert Hall of Rockefeller Arts Center. It is part of the orchestra’s 2024-25 Classics Series.

Tickets are available online 24/7, and by phone (716) 673-3501) or in person at the Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center on Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Student tickets are free in advance and $5 at the door the day of the performance with valid ID. General public tickets are $20.

“221B – A Sherlock Holmes Opera” is a work by Glen Cortese, conductor and artistic director of WNYCO.

Mr. Cortese is an accomplished composer and winner of numerous awards including the Charles Ives Scholarship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, a two-time winner of the Joseph E. Bearns Prize, and a CAPS Grant from the New York Council on the Arts. He is also the recipient of the Arthur Judson Foundation Award for a Young American Conductor and his discography includes recordings on the Bridge, Titanic, Newport Classics, Phoenix, Owl, CMS and Le Crepuscule du Disc labels.

The Western New York Chamber Orchestra is an ensemble-in-residence at the Fredonia School of Music.

“221B – A Sherlock Holmes Opera”” is sponsored by the Western New York Chamber Orchestra, the New York State Counsel For The Arts, the Cooper Foundation and the Friends of Rockefeller Arts Center in collaboration with the SUNY Fredonia School of Music.

The concert is presented as part of the 2024-25 Lake Shore Savings Season at Rockefeller Arts Center.
