Dr. Jill Reese
School of Music Professor Jill Reese shared a number of presentations at a conference held recently in Hamburg, Germany.
Dr. Reese joined music teachers from across Germany, the United Kingdom and other European countries at the annual conference of the Edwin E. Gordon Gesellschaft Deutschland e.V. (EEGG) to engage in professional development focused on research and best practices.
The conference on Oct. 4 also celebrated the 20th anniversary of the association's founding in Germany.
Reese's presentations included "Community through Ukulele Playing" and "Navigating Music Learning Theory." In addition, Reese was a guest speaker for students at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg.
The EEGG is an association that provides professional development for music teachers interested in continuing the research and applying the research related to Music Learning Theory. Based on an extensive body of research and practical field testing by Edwin E. Gordon and others, Music Learning Theory is an explanation of how we learn when we learn music.
Gordon's research supports the idea that every person is born with music aptitude (the potential to achieve through music) and that everyone can develop their music ability if they are supported through a musically rich environment.
Teaching methods based on Music Learning Theory help music teachers establish sequential curricular objectives in accord with their own teaching styles and beliefs. To learn more about Music Learning Theory, see the webpage for the Gordon Institute for Music Learning here:
