Dr. Merideth Hite Estevez
A recital, master class and workshop, among other activities, await oboe musicians of all talent levels and ages at Oboe Day on Sunday, Oct. 29, in the School of Music at SUNY Fredonia.
Dr. Merideth Hite Estevez, a sought-after recitalist and active freelancer, is the guest artist for the event. She has performed and taught throughout North and South America, Asia and Europe.
“I am excited to have Dr. Estevez at Fredonia to share her experiences from her extensive performing and recording career, her work with all levels of oboe students, and her broad experience helping artists develop successful careers,” said School of Music Professor Sarah Hamilton. Oboe Day is led by Dr. Hamilton and the Fredonia Oboe Studio.
A passionate teaching artist, Estevez uses her oboe to make music accessible to all types of audiences, crafting concerts and educational experiences for communities and classrooms alike. She has worked in schools throughout Delaware and provided professional development opportunities for teachers through her work with the Delaware Institute for Arts in Education.
“The day is intended for anyone who wants to learn more about the oboe while meeting and performing with other oboe players,” Dr. Hamilton added.
Jim Mason, of Jimboe Products, will exhibit instruments throughout the day.
Estevez received a D.M.A. in Oboe from The Juilliard School, an M.M. from Yale School of Music and a B.M. from the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music.
Oboe Day will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. A large ensemble performance with all participants, conducted by School of Music Assistant Professor and Director of Orchestras Emily Schaad, is the concluding event of Oboe Day.
The registration deadline for Oboe Day is Friday, Oct. 27. For more information and to register, see online.
Those who would like to be considered to play in the master class are to email a two-minute video of their playing to Hamilton by Saturday, Oct. 21.
