Dakota Richter
Dakota Richter, a senior Biology major from Fredonia, NY, has been named Student of the Month for August/September.
Nominating Mr. Richter for the Residence Life award was Rachel Kerr, who cited his strong academics and numerous contributions, highlighted by Richter’s work as the Student Association president.
Ms. Kerr spoke highly of Richter’s abilities, stating, “He consistently demonstrates a superior work ethic, exceptional intellectual capacity and is a gifted communicator. Those qualifications are enriched by personal maturity that further ensures his success.”
When asked about his favorite things about Fredonia, Richter wrote: ”SUNY Fredonia has helped me [to] foster a deeper belonging and connection to the community here. As a first-generation student I was nervous about coming here and not fitting in. I found myself surrounded by people who like the same clubs, who have the same interests and want to do the same thing.
“Also, SUNY Fredonia is in a good location for me. While I enjoy city life, I do enjoy nature as well,” he said. Being one hour away from Buffalo, NY, which has multiple stores, restaurants, an airport and an Amtrak station, makes the campus an ideal location.
“Finally, SUNY Fredonia has a vast amount of majors and minors here. This has allowed me to explore my interest while fulfilling my Fredonia foundations. As a Biology major I have taken photography classes, social media classes, a history class focused on the Salem Witch Trials, power yoga and so many more!
“I enjoy being able to take classes outside my major as I am also able to cross different paths of life and make new friends along the way,” Richter, who also has a minor in Communication, said.
The Student of the Month program was implemented in 2003 to recognize students who are well-rounded, excel in their academics and contribute positively to the campus and community.
