Senior Elora Sherman (center) with family and coaches.
Elora Sherman registered a team-record nine aces over five sets against Oswego, but the Devils fell just short, dropping a 3-2 match to Oswego on Saturday. Fredonia State handily won the first two matches, 25-14 and 25-14. Oswego took the third, 25-18, then needed extra points to secure the fourth set, 26-25, before claiming the third by just two points, 15-13.
It was also the Devil's final home contest of the year, as they honored Sherman as the team's lone senior.
Erin Callahan and Emma Foley had nine kills apiece, and Cayla Partsch added eight. In addition to Sherman, Molly Cassidy had three aces and Gabrielle Sordetto and Sasha Zayatz had two apiece. The Devils had 17 aces as a team. Cassidy would finish with 31 assists.
Sherman added 23 digs.
The Devils travel to Plattsburgh and Potsdam next weekend.
