Tubist Patricio Cosentino
The School of Music will host Patricio Cosentino for a two-day residency in October.
On Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 3 p.m., Cosentino will conduct a master class for tuba and euphonium students in the School of Music. He will work with individual students, listening to them play selections from solo repertoire and providing valuable feedback and ideas for improvement.
Organizers of the residency note that the pointers and recommendations are often universal and applicable for all students in attendance, creating a fruitful opportunity for both the students playing and those observing.
Later that day at 8 p.m. in Juliet J. Rosch Recital Hall, Cosentino will perform with SUNY Fredonia pianist I-Fei Chen in a solo tuba recital featuring a diverse selection of music from various genres, styles, and origins. The program notably will feature numerous selections from various Latin American composers and arrangers, celebrating the musical creativity of that part of the world. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.
On Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 9 a.m., Cosentino will rehearse and coach the tuba/euphonium ensemble in preparation for its Nov. 11 concert. Various topics will be discussed, including ensemble blend and intonation, musical characteristics of the music being workshopped and the challenges of performing in such an ensemble. At 10:30 a.m. there will be a Brass Chamber master class. Cosentino will work with brass chamber ensembles including quintets, quartets, and other various instrumentations, listening to the groups perform and providing valuable feedback and ideas for improvement.
