Fredonia graduate Steven Gangloff, M.D., will present one of his own interesting case studies, “The Haunting of Willow Lane,” and discuss his overall medical school journey in the Alumni Speaker Series, hosted by the Health Professions Advising program, on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m.

In the Halloween-themed case study presentation, Dr. Gangloff will outline the symptoms of a patient and explain how he figured out what was wrong with the patient. Interesting details and clues that draw students into this unique case study are a part of his presentation that helps them to understand how a physician makes a diagnosis.  Gangloff has presented other case studies in previous meetings with Fredonia students in past years.

Gangloff, who graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology (pre-med, with a minor in Chemistry) in 2012, will describe his preparation for medical school while attending Fredonia and his experiences at medical school, residency in neurology and his current fellowship at Duke University Hospital. A question/answer session will conclude the virtual talk.

Gangloff earned an M.D., with Gold Humanism distinction, from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in 2016 and completed a residency in neurology at the University of Pittsburgh, where he was Chief Resident in his final year, in 2020.

Currently, Gangloff is a fellow of both clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy, with an emphasized interest in clinical informatics. His research focus is intracranial electroencephalography and surgical epilepsy, particularly the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in quantitative corticography.

Beyond medicine, Gangloff has interests in programming and business, runs a neurology board-prep start-up and is also a two-time cookbook author.
