SUNY Fredonia students and alumni have contributed to an anticipated tabletop roleplaying game book for Ghostfire Gaming.

The project, currently in the crowdfunding phase, is Grim Hollow: Transformed. It involves two new game books: a world guide and a rules guide for a custom Dungeons & Dragons setting called Grim Hollow.

Current students participating were Anne Smith, a senio0, with majors in English and Computer Science, and a minor in Creative Writing, from Wilmington, NY; and Ben Evans, a senior with a major in Visual Arts and New Media: Animation/Illustration and Writing, and a minor in Theatre Arts, from Burnt Hills, NY.

Alumni included Genevieve (Jenna) Adams, a 2022 graduate with a major in English and a minor in Communication; and Jackson DiCarlo, a 2022 graduate with a major in Communication: Video Production and a minor in Film Studies.

All four were enrolled in WRTG 217: Writing for Roleplaying Games, a course the Department of English has offered since 2021. It will be taught again in the Spring 2025 semester.

Ghostfire Gaming offers paid internships for SUNY Fredonia students who want to learn more about game design, game writing, and publishing in the tabletop roleplaying game industry.

Mr. Evans was a Ghostfire Gaming intern in the Fall 2023 semester, Ms. Smith in the Spring 2024 semester. They took part in game design, game writing and book publishing for Ghostfire Gaming that included worldbuilding for Ghostfire's RPG worlds and settings, helped designing rules for the games, reviewing playtest feedback, editing content, writing pull quotes and other extra content, in addition to assisting with managing layout of manuscripts, among other duties.

The books are expected to be published in the latter half of 2025, and will be available in game stores, book stories and hobby shops. Additionally, the content will be highlighted on D&D Beyond, an official digital publishing platform hosted by the official publisher of the Dungeons & Dragons game.
