The Fredonia State men's cross country team finished 14th in the team standings Saturday at the Rochester Yellowjacket Cross Country Invitational.
Sembel Koshi was the first Blue Devil to cross the line at Genesee Valley Park in a time of 27:38.6 for 8,000 meters. He and teammates Stephen Hallberg and Kevin Moser, 81st and 104th respectively, ran as a pack early in the race before breaking apart and picking off fellow runners in the later stages.
Koshi improved a whopping 83 spots over the final 6,000 meters and ran negative splits over the final two recording spots, each separated by 2,000 meters. Hallberg improved by 55 spots over the last 6,000 meters while Moser passed 25 runners in the final 2,000 meters.
They were joined in the team scoring by Quillan Shimp and Lucas Peterson-Volz, the 104th and 128th finishers overall. The Fredonia State displacement finishers were Edward Jourdan and Aidan VanAmburg.
There were 290 starters and 259 finishers in the meet, won by Division I Colgate.
The Blue Devils are back in action on Saturday at Roberts Wesleyan.
