The SUNY Fredonia Office of Veterans Affairs will host a Veterans Remembrance Ceremony on Friday, Nov. 10 at 3:30 p.m., in the Multipurpose Room of the Williams Center.
The public is invited to attend the free event.
The event provides a forum through which the university and surrounding community gather to remember, honor and show gratitude to the countless men and women who have served the U.S. through the many branches of the Armed Forces. The highlight of the event is the presentation of the annual Fredonia Veterans Scholarships, the Courage and Honor Scholarship and the Ronald L. and Marilyn Denison Scholarship, all made possible through gifts to the Fredonia College Foundation. Recipients include:
Courage and Honor Scholarship
- Jacob Green, junior, Business Administration-Marketing major from Fredonia, NY
Ronald L. and Marilyn M. Denison Scholarship
- Michael Calimeri, senior, Math-Adolescence Education major from Jamestown, NY
Fredonia Veteran Scholarships
- Todd Zimmer, senior, Environmental Science major, from Buffalo, NY
- Alexis Wright, junior, Psychology major from Attica, NY
- Alyssa Wright, senior, Biology-Adolescence Education major from Attica, NY
- Levi Dowd, senior, Math Education, major, from Fair Haven, NY
- Luis Fernandez, first-year, Liberal Arts major from San Juan, Puerto Rico
There will also be the posting and retiring of the colors by the Dunkirk/Fredonia Veterans Council, and a moment of silence in recognition of American veterans for their service and sacrifice. The program will be followed by a reception.
Also, an information and a “package drop off” table will be at the event for the Holiday Care Package Fund Drive for military service members, and those attending are urged to bring a donation for the care packages.
The event is coordinated by David M. White, director of Multicultural Support Services and Veterans Administrator.
