The Fredonia State women's lacrosse team shutout the Hilbert College Hawks 20-0 on Saturday. "The way we shared the ball is the way I know we can play no matter the level of competition," said Head Coach Tori Poffenberger. "Today was a great confidence boost for us because we were able to execute some new and different things that we were putting in this week at practice, now our eyes are set on executing against Nazareth next week."
The Devils received five goals from Leah Kunisch with Emma Cockerel adding four goals. Cockerel would also lead the Devils in forced turnovers with four.
Cailin Karalus, Megan Karalus, Camryn Jacobs and Victoria Burget each would score two goals. Audrey Brown would have a team-high five draw controls and lead the team with four ground balls.
It was the first game of the season for Hilbert, who was led by Sklyer Holzman with three draw controls. Goalie Olivia Cleary would have 11 saves and Katie Kociszewski added four saves.
The Devils took a 7-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. At halftime the score would read 13-0 in favor of Fredonia State.
The Devils (2-0) earned the second shutout in program history, the first coming against Wells College in 2018 when the Devils won 18-0 at home.
Fredonia State returns home on Wednesday, March 6, with a 4 p.m. game against Nazareth.
