The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced award winners for men's and women’s swimming and diving. Voted on by the coaches, the awards honor the Swimmer, Diver, and Rookie of the Year for the conference, including Fredonia divers Meghan Bartlett and Arron Carlson.
As noted on the SUNYAC website, Bartlett was the 2017 SUNYAC Outstanding Diver of the Meet at the SUNYAC Championships, after claiming first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter. She would then qualify for the 2017 NCAA DIII Championships, placing third in the 3-meter and fourth in the 1-meter. Bartlett ends her impressive diving career this year, earning an astonishing six All-America honors throughout her three years with the Blue Devils. It is Bartlett's third consecutive SUNYAC Diver of the Year award.
Women’s Swimmer of the Year was Nancy Nasky of Geneseo and Rookie of the Year was Emily Ross of Oswego.
As noted on the SUNYAC website, Carlson, originally from LeRoy, capped his historic career with his first Diver of the Year award. The senior Blue Devil had an impressive season, going unbeaten in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions (24-0). The perfect record includes tremendous victories at the SUNYAC championship meet, where he topped 2016 National Champion Sam Randall in the 1-meter and also won the 3-meter competition. The performance earned Carlson his second straight Outstanding Diver of the Meet at the conference championship. At the 2017 NCAA Division III National Championships, Arron placed third nationally in the 3-meter and fourth in the 1-meter, gaining two more All-America honors for a total of five in his career.
Men’s Swimmer of the Year was Connor Mergler of SUNY Buffalo State and Rookie of the Year was Cooper Knapp of New Paltz.
