Fredonia landed the No. 5 seed in the SUNYAC men's hockey tournament with a 6-2 home win Saturday over Morrisville State.
The Blue Devils (11-10-4 overall/7-8-1 SUNYAC) will travel to No. 4 seed Plattsburgh for a first-round game on Wednesday night. They split their season-series with the Cardinals.
A flurry of four goals in the second period -- three in a span of 75 seconds -- erased a 2-1 Morrisville State lead. Tyler Riter (Orchard Park) knotted the score at 2-2 before Todd Schauss (Terryville, Conn.) netted the game-winner 55 seconds later. Ryan Dunn (Rockland, Mass.) scored 20 seconds after that to make it 4-2.
Jacob Haynes (Whitby, Ont.), Victor Tracy (Stockholm, Sweden), and Brandon Spognardi (Warrington, Pa.) had Fredonia's other goals. Ryan Dunner (Glassboro, N.J.) had three assists while Tracy had an assist to have a two-point game.
Anton Rosen (Orsa, Sweden) started in goal and made 20 saves before giving way to senior Nick Harper (Baldwinsville), who stopped the only shot she faced in the final 7:43.
Jimmy Philbin scored both Morrisville State goal and goaltender Sal Stalteri stopped 19 shots in the final 17 minutes after replacing starter Jared Young.
Fredonia entered the weekend needing three or more points to make the playoffs with a chance to earn a home playoff game, only to lose out on the No. 4 seed based on a tiebreaker.
In addition to Harper, three other seniors were playing their final regular-season home game: Sam Wilbur (Saginaw, Mich.), Oskar Gerhardson (Haesselholm, Sweden), and Jamie Young (Russell, Ohio).
