Turkey: East Meets West
Dr. Iclal Vanwesenbeeck, Eric Gray, John Gradel, Amanda McCoy, Ashley Zengerski

Monday, November 16 – 12-12:50,
Fenton Hall English Reading room (Fenton 127)

During J-Term 2009, students from SUNY Fredonia traveled to the cities of Istanbul and Izmir in Turkey. These students will share with you the wonders of the culture: how east meets west, Europe meets Asia and history meets present. You will see how the major religions all thrive in the city of Istanbul and how so much respect is paid to the Byzantine and Ottoman worlds.

We will take you on a journey through the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque—we will show you why they are famous in their own right. Tour the Topkapi and Dolmabahce palaces and visit a few museums to learn some of country's rich history. We will explore Ephesus, Pergamon and Troy, sites left from the ancient world. You will also have a taste of everyday life by learning about food and drink, music and shopping. Turkey is a country beautiful and rich in so many ways--let us show you how.
