First Dean hopes to strengthen business programs, gain AACSB accreditation.

SUNY Fredonia has hired the first Dean of its School of Business, designed to strengthen the quality and reputation of its business programs while leading the School as it pursues accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
In doing so, the university has appointed Russell P. Boisjoly to this position. Dr. Boisjoly, who will also have the faculty rank of professor within the Department of Finance, brings much experience in business and in academic leadership to his new role, which begins today. An international consultant in finance and strategy, he is also an associate with the TRI Corporation of Alexandria, Va., specialists in corporate and adult education. He has previously served as Dean of the Schools of Business at both Fairfield University and Adelphi University, and was instrumental in gaining accreditation at each institution from AACSB, the premier accrediting agency of collegiate business schools and accounting programs worldwide. He has also been on the faculties of Stonehill College, Indiana University, the University of Maryland, Simmons College, and the University of Massachusetts-Lowell. His education includes a B.S. in Industrial Management from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, an M.B.A. in Finance from Boston University, and D.B.A. in Finance from Indiana University.
Dr. Boisjoly actively consults with corporations and government agencies. His current and past clients include General Electric, Microsoft, Boeing, KLA-Tencor, Exelon, Praxair, Unilever, DHL, Deutsche Post World Net, Copa Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, China Xibei Airlines, Brink's, Lockheed Martin (Martin Marietta), Union Carbide, Rayonier, The Hartford, NYNEX (Verizon), Maytag, Carrier, GTE (Verizon), AT&T, Garuda Indonesia Airlines, Taunton Press, C&P Telephone (Verizon), AICPA, U.S. Department of Energy, NASA, and the Massachusetts Photovoltaic Center. He has taught courses in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, the Czech Republic, England, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Panama, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Russia, Singapore, Spain, and Turkey for his multinational corporate clients.

Hefner said. “His appointment signals to our current and prospective students and faculty, as well as our alumni and the business community, that SUNY Fredonia is continuing its progress toward becoming a major player in the business landscape in Western New York. As we prepare to open our new Business Technology Incubator this fall, the timing couldn’t be better to add someone as accomplished as Russ is to our team.”

Dr. Boisjoly also served as Senior Staff Analyst in the Finance Division of OAO Corporation of Beltsville, Md., where he worked on U.S. government contracts. In addition, he has written numerous articles on the topics of business ethics, optimal capital structure, mergers and acquisitions, and bankruptcy prediction which have focused especially on the application of corporate finance to the regulated trucking and electric utility industries. He has written a monograph on accounting and financial practices of the electric utility industryand a monograph on shareholder value creation for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, which was used across the U.S. His frequently cited article on the ethical dimensions of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster was selected for inclusion in the International Library of Management, Volume 1(Ashgate Publishing) as one of the 1,000 most important management research articles of the 20th Century.
Dr. Boisjoly is listed in Who’s Who in the World, Who's Who Worldwide and Who's Who in Finance, and he is a member of two honor societies: Beta Gamma Sigma and Tau Epsilon Sigma. He received the Student Award for Outstanding Teaching, Certificate of Recognition for exceptional performance in the classroom at the University of Maryland. He is Six Sigma Greenbelt Certified in Health Care, and he is a licensed auctioneer in the State of Massachusetts.
