SUNY Fredonia will hold a tribute to the late Dr. Franklin B. Krohn of Brocton on Monday, Feb. 19 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Williams Center Room G-138. The Department of Business Administration, where he taught for 29 years, is organizing the event. A scholarship is being established in his memory, announced Mojtaba Seyedian, chairperson of the department.
“Franklin passed away during the holiday break period, and so, we in the University community have not had an appropriate opportunity to mark the meaning of his presence and the great loss his death represents,” Dr. Seyedian said. Light refreshments will be offered and brief remarks are welcome by friends, former students, and colleagues. Anyone interested should contact Dr. Seyedian at 716-673-3505 or e-mail.
Contributions to the scholarship should be made payable to Fredonia College Foundation and sent to the Krohn Memorial Scholarship, Department of Business Administration; E 336 Thompson Hall; SUNY Fredonia, Fredonia, NY, 14063.
Dr. Krohn, who died suddenly on Jan. 13 at the age of 73, taught marketing at SUNY Fredonia and was designated by the SUNY Board of Trustees as a Distinguished Service Professor, one of the university’s highest honors. He joined the SUNY Fredonia Department of Business Administration, now part of the School of Business, in 1978.
As faculty advisor to the university’s award-winning Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) program, he taught business ethics and entrepreneurship through free-market projects.
He was the recipient of the President’s Award at SUNY Fredonia and the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Dr. Krohn also wrote more than 100 scholarly papers and articles, and provided business consulting services in Northern Chautauqua County. He was active for many years in United University Professions, the bargaining unit for faculty and professional staff in the State University of New York. He earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees at the University at Buffalo, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
