Fredonia senior Mikayla Capestrani (Jamestown/Jamestown) broke her own school record in the women's pole vault and finished 11th Friday at the NCAA Division III championship meet in Birmingham, Ala.

Capestrani cleared 3.70 meters -- 12 feet, 1 1/2 inches -- on her third try at the height. She tried but missed at 3.75 meters.

It was the third time this winter Capestrani has added to the school record. Her previous best of 3.69 meters -- 12 feet, 1 1/4 inches -- came at the All-Atlantic Regional meet on March 2.

Her 11th place finish Friday at nationals was an improvement on her pre-meet seed, which was No. 16 in a field of 17 women.

Capestrani was Fredonia's lone competitor -- male or female -- at the national meet.
